Our aim is to promote shorthorn cattle in the west of Ireland.

Meetings are held regularly in Walshe’s Lounge, Charlestown, Co.Mayo,
and are usually very well attended, lots of information shared.
The first Club Meeting was held in The Gateway Hotel ,Swinford, Co.Mayo on the 13th September, 2004, Ten years this year, it does not seem that long ago. Since then, our membership has increased steadily.

Many events have been organised;

• Annual Spring and Autumn Show & Sales are held in Castlerea Mart., Co. Roscommon.
• Some Club Members travel the length and breadth of Ireland to Shows and win numerous trophies.
• Numerous Farm visits have been organised. 25 people travelled by Bus & Ferry to the Shorthorn Show & Sale in Sterling, Scotland last Autumn. It was a very worthwhile and enjoyable trip.
• Members have a great input in the Shorthorn section of Bonniconlon Show. Bonniconlon Show is one of the biggest in Ireland and getting better each year. Shorthorn Beef burgers, supplied and cooked by Caroline Rigney, Limerick are always in great demand.

Mount Leinster Shorthorn Breeders Club

The Mount Leister club meet regularly during the year. We hold a show and sale at the latter end of October every year. The past few years it was held in Carlow, The show is for Shorthorn Cross heifers and calves.

During the summer we try to have a day out together as a club. We have been to different events around the country eg. shows or farm walks

Over the past few years we have held table quizzes and cabarets for different charities.

Shannonside Shorthorn Breeders Club

The Shannonside Shorthorn Breeders Club, holds its annual sale of Pedigree Registered Shorthorns at Clare Marts Ennis Co Clare on the first Saturday of October each year. This Year it will be held on Saturday the 4th. Of October 2014.

In the past we have had many enjoyable trips abroad to Scottish , English, and Irish herds, and intend to do more again in the future.

We have been visited by other clubs ,on many occasions, and are always available to organise herd visits,and open days.
