We are a cattle breed society that serves to promote, preserve and improve the Shorthorn breed in Ireland.

What we collect

We collect personally identifiable information (PII) that you provide to us, which is information that identifies you as an individual. We only do this when you have provided us with the information and you have given your consent that we can use it in your interest for the purposes set out in this Privacy Statement. Any personal data you volunteer will be used for the purpose for which you supply it and will be treated with the highest standards of security and confidentiality, in accordance with General Data Protection Regulations. Irish Shorthorn Society collects and uses your personal identifiable information (PII) for the purpose of managing the member’s membership and providing cattle breeding information services you have requested. Your information will only be used for providing you with the best service possible.

By providing your PI, and where you have agreed to receiving communications from us, we may use the information:
  • to consider your application for membership with us
  • to identify and create a profile of animals automatically by synchronizing with the department of agriculture’s system.
  • to notify you of our breed related news, breed or society updates and announcements
  • to respond to your requests
  • to improve our level of service
  • to seek your views on our services
The legal basis for processing your personal information is that you have explicitly given your consent to us.  This consent can be given at the time of initially seeking our services or having read the company’s Privacy Statement providing explicit consent to our continuing use of the personal data you have supplied us.

 

Retention Period

We will hold your personal data for as long as you are a member of the Irish Shorthorn Society Ltd, and for as long afterwards as is necessary for the running of the Irish Shorthorn Society Ltd.

We will review your personal data every year to establish whether we are still entitled to process it. If it is decided that we are not entitled to do so, we will stop processing your personal data and destroy it.

We have a destruction process in place for all financial information once we have processed it and it is no longer required.

  • Right to erasure – in certain circumstances, you can ask for the data we hold about you to be erased from our records in accordance with Section 87 and Section 89 of the Data Protection Act 2018;
  • Right to restriction of processing – where certain conditions apply to have a right to restrict the processing in accordance with Section 87 and Section 89 of the Data Protection Act 2018
  • Right of portability – subject to certain restrictions, you have the right to have the data we hold about you transferred to another organisation where we hold it in electronic form. This right of data portability applies to: (i) personal data that we process automatically (i.e. without any human intervention); (ii) personal data provided by you; and (iii) personal data that we process based on your consent
  • Right to object – you have the right to object to certain types of processing such as direct marketing.

How we protect your PII

Irish Shorthorn Society Ltd. will take appropriate legal, organisational, and technical measures to protect your personal information. Sharing PII with Third Parties

You (the member) have control of who can access your data. We will only share your personal data with third party organisations if you grant authorisation to a specific organisation for the purposes of providing services and benefits to you. e.g. Department of Agriculture and Food, Irish Cattle Breeding Federation, veterinary, consultant, mart or auctioneer.

We may share personal data for the purposes of printing member newsletters, breed journal and show and sale schedules or catalogues with third party organisations. However, we disclose only the personal data that is necessary for the third party to deliver the service and we have contracts in place that requires Third parties to keep your data secure and not use it for their own purposes.

We require all companies providing such support services to meet the same standards of data protection as our own. They are prohibited from using the information for their own purposes. We do not allow service providers to use your PII for their own activities.

 

Marketing

We may contact you about our services and other events involving or relating to Irish Shorthorn Society which may be of interest to you. You have the right to ask us to stop processing your personal data for direct marketing purposes. If you wish to exercise this right.
