July 13th was Show day in Mullingar, it started a cloudy overcast day but by lunchtime that had all changed and so had the Spirits of the Beef Shorthorn breeders. Though numbers were back on last year the quality was excellent. All the animals on display were exhibited very well by their owners. Congratulations to all for the pride & passion with which you all exhibited your cattle.
The first Class of the day was the Inter Club Championship which was won by the Moyside Club represented by the Dowd Family. The Beef Shorthorn Cow class was won by Noel Dowd, Creggs, Co. Galway with Creaga Gipsy, a Cairnsmore Thrasher daughter. 2nd Place went to Tom Fox, Athlone, Co. Westmeath with Bethlehem Beauty an Alta Cedar Lads Legacy daughter. In the All Ireland 2 year old Beef Shorthorn Heifer class Creaga Heidi took the re rosette with Tom Fox’s Bethlehem Moonlight taking the blue rosette and Uppernmill Fifi exhibited by Shane McKiernan,Ballinagh, Co. Cavan taking the yellow rosette. Next we had the yearling Beef Shorthorn heifer class, again the Dowd family came out on top with Creaga Jolee a roan Ingleton C111 daughter. The 2014 born heifer calf class was won by Tom Fox, Athlone with his roan Perfect Storm calf and Amelda Middleton took 2nd place with her red Sliabhbhui Prince heifer calf. The 2014 born bull calf class was won by Creaga Kenko a Paintearth Rama son with Creaga Kenzo a Dice son taking 2nd place. The Beef Shorthorn Champion on the day was Creaga Heidi with Creaga Gipsy taking the Reserve Beef Shorthorn Champion.
But for the Creaga Herd there was even more to come. Creaga Gipsy with her Dice bull calf Creaga Kenzo took 1st prize in an Interbreed Suckler cow class.
