Commercial Shorthorns in demand
A super price was received on Saturday April 25th for a Shorthorn cross bullock at Aurivo Livestock Mart in Balla, Co. Mayo. The Mayo farmer attended the mart with both bullocks and heifers of all breeds but was more than pleased with the price he received for his Shorthorn cross bullock, The Shorthorn cross bullock was sired by well known Shorthorn bull Creaga Dice and was bred off a Charolais cross dam. This animal weighed in at 660kgs at 22 months and sold for 1590 euro. Also on the day the farmer had an Angus bullock bred from a full bred Shorthorn cow that weighed in at 780kgs at 24 months and sold for 1900euro. This is a great advertisement for Shorthorn cross cattle and the prices they can achieve.
