About the Herd: Thank you for visiting the Bushypark farm profile. The Bushypark Shorthorn herd’s home is just outside Ennis, Co. Clare. With my wife Mary our kids Jonathan & Roisin we farm 80 acres of limestone ground that is typical to this area. The farm has a long tradition with Shorthorn cattle and has only ever kept Shorthorns. My mother has often told me about how she remembers when she was a child the local butchers from Ennis town calling to buy shorthorn heifers. I began farming in 1995 and shortly afterwards we began to show our cattle at local shows. We have had many show success over the years, one of the highlights was the all-Ireland yearling heifer in 2007, pictured with me in the photo below now aged 10 she has produced a calf every year since. Cattle breeders of any bred be it pedigree or commercial need to secure a return on their investments. Thankfully the cattle we have produced over the years are highly sought after and Bushypark Shorthorns have achieved top prices at the Irish Shorthorn Society sales held annually in Ennis, & Kilfenora. Our cattle attract pedigree & commercial breeders, recently a home bred bull Bushypark Ultra (Pictured below) was purchased by our near neighbour Tom Staunton and was shown successfully at Northern Ireland’s elite Agriculture show Balmoral. Our cattle are mainly of traditional breeding with a very select outside influence, as we have always favoured breeding our own replacement and in doing so preserving the bloodlines that have served our family so well for most of the last century and this one.

We support all legislation that helps secure a high health status and we are proactive in meeting all requirements to achieve this. All our cattle are pedigree registered with the Irish Shorthorn Society; Data records are maintained through the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF). We vaccinate against BVD & Lepto and are members of An Board Bia’s quality assured beef program. For our family the Shorthorns we breed are functional animals that have given us back more than what we have put in year after year. We are blessed that we had the opportunity to work with these cattle, and we always enjoy meeting other cattle breeders and welcome any interest in our cattle. Farm visits are welcome and can be arranged by a call beforehand.

I would like to say well done to the Society for creating our new website and the opportunity for Bushypark Shorthorns to add its profile.

Kind regards

John, Mary ,Jonathan & Roisin Keane.
