About the Herd: The herd consists of 20 Pedigree Shorthorn cows. The Stock Bull used in 2013 wasBallynagalliagh Hero (RO) 100%. Sire: Ballynagalliagh Champion . G Sire: Lickeen Enda. Champion was very docile, which is very important, as many on farm deaths have been caused by bulls. His offspring have good conformation, nice roan colour and are easily calved. Patrick sells the weanling heifers at the Moyside/Croghan Shorthorn Breeders Club Autumn Show & Sale in Castlerea Mart. Co.Roscommon.

All Cows, Heifers and Stock Bull are BVD & Lepto vaccinated annually. Also we are Bord Bia quality assured for both cattle and sheep.

Patrick always liked shorthorn cattle. In 1974 when the weather was very bad and fodder was in scarce supply in autumn, weanlings were sold for £10 and £3. Patrick purchased three top quality cows for £20 each, Red, Roan and light Roan. Many years later Kieran McAllister, Kilbride Herd, Aclare brought him to a sale in Kilfenora, needless to say he came back with two weanling heifers. One of them was Lickeen Evelyn, Bred by Andy O’Donoghue, Miltown Malbay, Co.Clare, today there are still descendants of Evelyn in the herd.

We find that Shorthorn cattle are very hardy, easily calved, especially as we live in a scenic hill area known as The Ox Mountains.

We wish the best of luck to all Shorthorn Breeders.
