Membership Fees:

There are still a number of subscriptions outstanding for 2014. We would ask that breeders give this matter their urgent attention.

Late Registration Fees:

With regard to late registration fees all female animals born before March 31st

subject to a late penalty fee of 20.00, and all male animals born before April 2013 are now

subject to a late penalty fee of 50.00.

Annual General Meeting:

The Annual General Meeting of the Society took place in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Sunday May 18th were returned to Council, namely Noel Dowd, Michael Conway, Kenny Smyth and Michael McKeon. A signed copy of the 2013 accounts are available by request to all paid up. There were no nomination received so all the outgoing Council Members

Website Launch:

We are launching the New Website on Thursday May 29th Please see attached sheet with program for Launch evening. Breeders are encouraged to take out their own advert on the Map of Ireland. If you require any assistance uploading your advert please contact us.

Breed Journal

The latest edition of the Breed Journal in near completion and will be available to all paid up members in June.

New Beef Bulls 2014

There are two new bulls available for 2014. Ballyart Lucky is available for Bova A.I. station in Limerick. Lucky is a red son of Waukaru Patent 8161 out of SBR Dora cow, all Canadian breeding. Also Dovea A.I. Station have sourced a new bull for 2014. Creaga Java A.I. Code JCJ. Java is a son of Ingleton C111 (A.I. Code IGL ) out of a Ballyart Vantage cow. His Sire Ingleton was imported by Dovea A.I. Station from Australia in 2010.

All Ireland Classes 2014

This year the All Ireland Class winners will be awarded specially commissioned medals along with rosettes and the Champion will receive a Sash. All the All Ireland Class entries must be pedigree registered with the Irish Shorthorn Society a minimum of 2 months prior to Show day and all exhibitors must be fully paid up members of the Society. On the day all entries must be well presented, only one handler allowed in the show ring and the handler must be dressed smartly, preferable in a white coat.

Spring Sales 2014

The Beef Spring Sale was held in Roscommon Mart on April 5th Clashagad Maddison bred by Phil & Pat Sheedy, Roscrea sold for 2000 euro to an Northern Ireland breeder. The Male Reserve Champion was Lismacool Jobe bred by Padraig Flanagan, Elphin, Co. Roscommon. The Female Show Champion Jackie Kate bred by the Heneghan Brothers sold for 2250 euro to a Beef Shorthorn breeder from Cork. The Female Reserve Champion Jackie April was also bred by the Heneghan Brothers, Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon. Bulls were a good trade, with a number of bulls going for export to Northern

Gene Ireland Maternal Beef Breeding Program:

Our Gene Ireland committee have selected one Beef Shorthorn bull for the Gene Ireland program. Doon Erasmus is a Perfect Storm son out of a Lickeen Enda 5th

Milking Shorthorn Breed Code:

In December a delegation met with the Department of Agriculture regarding a separate breed code for Milking Shorthorns, we were successful in acquiring a new code ‘MS’ for the Milking Shorthorns. The new code has been added to the breed codes on the AIMS System but there is still a body of work to be completed on the ICBF Database before it will be fully operational.

Classification of Milking Shorthorns:

A number of Milking Shorthorns were Classified last September/October by Rob Hancock IHFA Classifier. There are still a number of new herds to be Classified this year and also a number due a second visit. Paul Boals/IHFA Classifier is currently available for Classifying the Milking Shorthorns, any breeder requiring animals Classified this year should contact Paul on 086 3838648 immediately as he needs to slot Shorthorn breeders into his diary by geographical location.
