Mount Leinster Sale Report – ’25

Strong Trade and Full Clearance at Mount Leinster Shorthorn Autumn Sale

There was a lively trade and a packed ringside at Blessington Mart, Co. Wicklow, on the Bank Holiday Monday, October 27th, as the Mount Leinster Shorthorn Breeders Club held their annual Autumn Sale.

Mr. John Doyle, took to the rostrum as auctioneer for the sale. With 43 lots catalogued and buyers travelling from all corners of the country – alongside strong online interest.

In the female section, the top-priced in-calf heifer came in the form of Lot 32 – Rhyne Lynnette. This eye-catching July 2023 roan heifer, bred by Roy Moorhead, Co. Longford, and offered by James Whelan, Co. Wicklow, sold for €4,600. She is sired by Ballinlig Deeda and out of a Ballylaffin Lyn dam.

The leading maiden heifer, Lot 27 – Ballylehaun Fiona, was bred by James Muldowney, Co. Laois. Born in January 2024, this daughter of Winalot Rodney and out of a Chapelton Typhoon dam sold for €2,800.

Among the weanling heifers, Lot 4 – Ballylaffin Thelma and Lot 5 – Ballylaffin Teresa both stood out. Bred by James Whelan and each sired by Moygara High Field, the pair topped the section, selling for €3,050 apiece.

The weanling bulls met a steady trade, changing hands from €1,200 to €1,800, while the Shorthorn commercial section saw good demand, with prices ranging between €1,500 and €2,850.

With a 100% clearance rate, the sale was another great success for the club. The club extended sincere thanks to John Doyle, the management and staff at Blessington Mart, and to all who assisted in the running of the sale. Special appreciation was given to the vendors and purchasers whose support ensured another strong outing for the Mount Leinster Shorthorn Breeders Club, as well as to James Whelan’s family, who kindly provided food for all.
