DNA Rules For Milking Shorthorns

Dear Breeders,
Please familiarise yourself with the DAFM dna rules for Milking Shorthorns in the Irish Shorthorn Society herdbook. Should you require any further information, please contact the office on 086-0461442 or email secretary@irishshorthorn.com
- Effective from 1st March 2025, all dams born on/after 1st January 2022 and all sires must be DNA-tested/genotyped before their progeny can be registered. The cost is borne by the breeder.
- Effective from 1st January 2027, it is a requirement for entry into the herdbook that all female calves must DNA/genotyped (sire verified and dam verified if the dam was born on/after 01/01/2022). The cost is borne by the breeder.
- Herd sires born on/after 1st January 2022 and joining the herd from 1st January 2024 must be DNA/genotyped before their progeny can be registered. The cost is borne by the breeder.
- Effective from 1st January 2024, it is a requirement for entry into the herdbook that all male calves must DNA/genotyped. The cost is borne by the breeder.
