Shorthorn Champion of the World!

Shorthorn Breeder.net recently held their online photo competition called “Shorthorn Champion of the World”. Entries and photos were shown on their facebook page ‘Shorthorn Breeder’. Their 2023 official judges included: Fernando Alfonso Bordaberry from Uruguay, David Giddings from New Zealand, Shane Murphy from Ireland, and Jill & Cole Harvie from Canada.

The competition included a European section which saw a wonderful display of Irish bred Beef Shorthorn cattle. Under the category “Shorthorn – Miss Europe”, the silver medal went to Caramba Oi Edna, bred by Tom Staunton from Co. Galway. In the same category, the bronze medal went to Portshan Blueway, bred by Frank Whitney from Co. Leitrim. The cow is now owned by Noel & Lisa Dowd from Co. Galway.

In the category “Shorthorn – Champion of Europe”, the gold medal went to Bethlehem Malton EX94 (main photo – by Alfie Shaw). The bull was bred by Tom Fox and family from Co. Westmeath and now owned by Leanne Green from Co. Antrim.

Bethlehem Malton EX94 didn’t stop there. In the category “Shorthorn – Champion of the World”, he went on to win the silver medal. An amazing achievement and a wonderful result for Irish Shorthorns.

A notable mention to Ricketstown Popeye, bred by Martin Kelly from Co. Carlow who also represented Ireland as a finalist.

Well done to all involved!
