The Croghan Shorthorn Breeders Club held a haltered show and sale in conjunction with Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society on Saturday 6th April, 2024.
The event was held at The Showgrounds, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Roscommon.
The Champion Shorthorn Heifer was Lot 98 ‘Raheenadeeragh Una 5’, property of Adrian Flatley, Co. Mayo. The March ‘23 born heifer was bred by Peter Luttrell, Co. Kildare and is sired by Doon Jupiter SH4929.
Reserve Champion Shorthorn Heifer went to Lot 91 ‘Suntown Fifi’, property of Conor Kirwan, Co. Louth. The June ‘22 born heifer is sired by Maralin Piper (a son of Chapelton Typhoon) and out of a Creaga Dice sired dam.
The Male Champion went to Lot 90 ‘Bethlehem Smokey’ property of Thomas Fox, Co. Westmeath. The 5-star March ‘23 born bull is sired by Castlehaven Bullet.
Top prices on the day were:
Lot 93 ‘Carrow Gabbie’, property of Louie Dockery, Co. Roscommon, made €2500. The 5-star November ‘22 heifer is sired by Buncraggy Firefox SH4748.
Mr. John Beirne, Co. Leitrim received €2000 for his March ‘23 bull. Lot 87 ‘Kesh Holec’ is sired by Clonina Explorer SH4609 and out of a Ballyart Lucky sired dam.
Lot 92 ‘Kim Cowdashian’, owned by Padraig Flanagan, Co. Roscommon also made €2000. The October ‘22 born heifer was bred by Ann Marshal, Co. Meath and is sired by Winalot Rodney 1r.
