Shannonside Shorthorn Sale, Ennis 2024
Shannonside Shorthorn Breeders Club held their annual sale of Pedigree Beef Shorthorn cattle at Ennis Mart, Co. Clare. The sale took place on Saturday 5th October, with 98 Shorthorns on offer.
The first section on offer were the in-calf heifers. With 9 heifers on offer, there was good demand for quality ones. Lot 7 ‘Gurth Red Robin’, property of Martin Ryan Rodgers, Co. Tipperary topped the in-calf section at €2580. The average price for in calf heifers on the day was €1700.
Maiden Heifers were also sought after, especially quality lots. The top priced maiden heifer went to lot 24, ‘Cooga Christina 13th‘, who tapped out at €1740. The March 2023 born heifer was bred by Mr. Colin Sheehy, Co. Limerick. The average price in this section was €1100.
Weanling heifers were as usual in good demand. Mr. Daniel Cronin, Co. Galway received the top price for lot 86 ‘Graigue Chanel’. The white, March 24 born heifer topped the section at €2440 . The average price for weanlings was €1020 and 54 out of the 67 lots were sold.
Overall, there was an 85% clearance, and as usual attracted a good crowd.
